About Us
Patty Flott, an Alzheimer's disease and related dementia care educator and consultant, founded Remembering Rose in honor of her grandmother, Rose Santosola Gallizzo and her father, Ben Parrish.
Rose, died with late on-set dementia in 1994 and Patty’s father, Ben Parrish died with late onset dementia in 2016. Both had lived with dementia for several years before passing away, both were told to go home and get their affairs in order. That is all the medical professionals could offer them at that time.
While we have come along way in the last several years, studies show that only 12% of doctors are screening for dementia and of those doctors very few have resources, information and education to share with the individuals and their care partners.
Remembering Rose was founded by Patty Flott, she has spent the last 17 years in eldercare passionately working to assist professionals, families, individuals and communities to better understand cognitive impairment so that those with dementia can live well and we as a community can become educated with current information on Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias.
When Patty founded Anita’s Angels, Inc. in 2004, she quickly realized that 80% of her clients were living with Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive decline or a related dementia. She forged a relationship with The Alzheimer’s Association, facilitating support groups, and dementia care education with her clients, their families, care partners and her health care staff as well as healthcare workers in her community.
Patty has been certified by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practioner( NCCDP/ICCDP) as a Certified Dementia Practioner (CDP), an Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Trainer (CADDCT), a Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional (CMDCP) a Certified Dementia Support Group Facilitator (CDSGF) and as a Certified First Responder Dementia Trainer, (CFRDT). Patty presents the Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care seminar (ADDC), the path and a requirement to become a Certified Dementia Practioner and a Certified First Responder- Dementia Trained (CFR-DT) through the NCCDP and numerous other workshops and in-service presentations.
Patty, founded Remembering Rose, to deliver current dementia care education through a positive interactive and engaging curriculm that is tailored toward our audience. Remembering Rose is passionate about bringing dementia awareness and education to individuals and communities, so that people with dementia will have a sense of belonging, a sense of purpose and a shared belief that all people with dementia will have their needs met with respect and dignity.
When Patty’s grandmother and then her father, died with Dementia there was very little she or her family could do to improve their quality of life. Today, that has all changed! Comprehensive dementia education, information and resources are available to ensure and improve quality of life, and that the voices of all, who are affected by dementia, live a quality of life where they can express choice and practice self-determination in meaningful ways, creating the kind of care that we each want for ourselves and our loved ones!
